TALENTED Dorset driver Luke Wright continued his Air Asia Renault Clio Cup UK campaign at the Snetterton race circuit.
The Shaftesbury ace replicated the fine form he showed at Croft last time out by scoring his second successive podium courtesy of a mature drive to second place in race one.
Racing at the freshly redeveloped Norfolk venue, Wright soon got to grips with the new extended circuit layout in the Friday testing before qualifying in seventh position for both races.
After making one of his trademark lightning quick starts as the lights went out the 19-year-old capitalised on a first corner collision between three cars moving through to third place before slicing his way into second at the Agostini hairpin.
Resisting pressure from behind for the first third of the 10-lap race, Wright then closed in on the leader with a string of consistently fast laps, but was unable to find a way past before the flag fell.

He said: “The first couple of corners were basically carnage with people just driving into each other but luckily I managed to stay out of trouble.
“I was catching the leader and I think with a few more laps a win would have definitely been on the cards.”
The following day’s second race once again proved just how highly competitive the one-make series is.

After another great opening lap Wright had already moved through to fourth but a small mistake on the brakes allowed the chasing pack through, dropping the former kart racer down into 10th place which he held to the finish.

Wright added: “With this series everyone is so close that any mistake and you will lose a whole bunch of places.
“All in all it has been another good weekend for us though and we have learnt an awful lot which will help us to move forward for the remainder of the season.”
Wright is now set to race in front of up to 75,000 spectators. |
