Luke Wright made a stunning debut in Touring Car and GT racing – in the United Kingdom’s toughest motor race.

Driving a 350bhp SEAT Leon Supercopa run by the highly-respected Welch Motorsport, Wright played a starring role in the driver line-up that finished the Britcar 24 Hours at Silverstone in 10th place.

The event took place over the weekend of October 2nd/3rd, and featured some of the trickiest conditions any of the drivers will face during their careers, with heavy rain and thick fog striking during the race.

With 60 cars in the field, and approximately 250 drivers, 18-year-old Wright showed that he also has the skills necessary to progress in this form of motorsport. The Dorset man, the youngest driver in the field, was among the quickest drivers on the track in a car much different to the Formula Renault Tatuus he is used to racing.

“It was the best race I’ve ever done,” said Luke. “I’d never raced a Touring Car or GT car before, but when the track was wet I was quicker than all the powerful GT cars and among the top three overall – which against Moslers, Porsches and Ferraris isn’t bad!”

Wright was at the wheel when fog descended at three o’clock in the morning: “I couldn’t see the edge of the track, but the SEAT was so good that I could just follow the brake lights of the car in front, and then brake 10 metres later and know it would stop.
