He concluded the season by finishing second overall in the Spanish Open championship, having taken a string of podiums. Podium

By karting standards, Luke was something of a late-comer to the sport. Most start as 8-year olds in the Cadet class - but Luke was 12 when he started competing in the faster Mini Max category. On his debut he “got a podium - and lots of points on my licence,” thanks to some rather “enthusiastic” manoeuvres.

It was a promising start, showing traits he continues to build a reputation for - commitment and bravery.

Graduating from Mini to Junior Max – winning the Welsh Championship on the way - Luke then switched to the JICA (Junior Inter Continental A) class in 2007, and finished 3rd overall in the Stars of Tomorrow Championship.

For the following season, Luke stepped up to the KF2 category, and in only his 3rd international race - the Bridgestone Cup - laid down a marker of his great potential. He astonished the paddock with 2nd place and set the fastest lap. Helmet

Building on this early promise, he went on to achieve even greater results in 2008 - opening his account with victory in the first round of the Italian Open Masters series at Lonato. He said: “To go and get 2nd place at the Bridgestone Cup was phenomenal, but to win the first Italian Open Masters race was just awesome. The standard of competition was incredibly tough.”

Luke finished the year as the Spanish Open Vice-Champion (taking several podiums in the process) and claimed 3rd place in the concluding round of the historic Industrial Trophy race at Parma.

Having moved into British karting’s premier category - KF1 – Luke was the youngest and least experienced competitor in the field, but quickly got to grips with the faster machinery and best drivers in the UK. Brands Hatch 5

His pace and consistency was rewarded with seven podiums, and ultimately third place in the championship.

Now Luke has graduated to cars with SWB Motorsport to contest the Protyre BARC Formula Renault championship, one of the foremost junior single-seater categories and renowned for being a cost-effective proving ground for aspiring young drivers.
